Christmas Events 2026: Parades, Tree Lightings and More

Christmas events are the community traditions that fill the December calendar: hometown Christmas parades, lighted boat parades, tree lighting ceremonies on courthouse squares, Santa visits, Christmas strolls, festivals of trees, and stage favorites like The Nutcracker and A Christmas Carol.

Many parades and tree lightings are free, last one evening, and land on the weekend after Thanksgiving or the first two weekends of December, so it pays to plan early. Note the start time and the route, and expect nearby streets to close well before things begin. Shows and concerts usually need tickets bought ahead.

A practical tip for parades and tree lightings: get there early with a folding chair or blanket, a thermos of something warm, and a small flashlight for the walk back to the car.

Dates can change, so check the event’s website before you go.
