About this event

Boston's signature holiday celebration lights the city's official Christmas tree on Boston Common near the Visitor Information Center on Tremont Street. The tree is a gift from the Province of Nova Scotia, a tradition dating to 1971 that thanks Boston for sending a relief train within 24 hours of the 1917 Halifax Harbor explosion. Recent ceremonies have opened with a couple of hours of live entertainment before the countdown, been broadcast live on WCVB, and been followed right away by the lighting of the trees along the Commonwealth Avenue Mall in the Back Bay.

Our take: After the countdown, walk over to the Commonwealth Avenue Mall to see its trees light up too.
