About this event

The Trek to the Nation's Christmas Tree gathers crowds at the base of the General Grant Tree in Kings Canyon National Park's Grant Grove to sing, pray and pay tribute to the giant sequoia. Estimated at 1,800 to 2,000 years old and 268 feet tall, the tree was dedicated as the Nation's Christmas Tree in 1926 and later named a National Shrine honoring the nation's war dead. The service began in 1925, inspired by Sanger Chamber of Commerce leaders R.J. Senior and Charles E. Lee, and has been held every year since except during wartime travel restrictions. Sanger, recognized as the Nation's Christmas Tree City, organizes the trek.

Our take: Ride the chartered buses from Sanger rather than driving, since parking near the tree is very limited.

Parking

Parking at the tree is very limited; organizers strongly suggest riding the chartered buses from Sanger.
