About this event
New Haven's annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, hosted by the city's Departments of Arts, Culture and Tourism and Parks, Recreation and Trees and presented by WTNH News 8, fills the lower New Haven Green with music, performances, amusement rides and the lighting of the city tree. The 16-acre Green was established in 1638 as part of the city's original Nine-Square Plan and is surrounded by historic buildings, including three churches and Yale University.
