About this event
The Alexandria Holiday Boat Parade of Lights lights up Old Town's historic waterfront as dozens of brightly lit boats cruise along a mile of the Potomac River shoreline. Dockside festivities in Waterfront Park include a pop-up beer garden from Port City Brewing Company, food and activities, and the parade is part of Alexandria's biggest holiday weekend. Boats compete for awards each year, and recent winners have ranged from best powerboat and best sailboat to playful categories such as Hardiest Soul and Most Spirited Crew.
Our take: Take Metro to King Street and walk down, since the waterfront garages fill up well before the boats arrive.
Parking
Garages closest to the waterfront fill up in advance and street closures are common; Metrorail (King Street station), the free King Street Trolley and Capital Bikeshare are encouraged.
