About this event

Alexandria was founded in 1749 by Scottish merchants and named after Scotsman John Alexander, and the Alexandria Scottish Christmas Walk Parade celebrates that heritage each year. Dozens of Scottish clans in colorful tartans parade through the streets of Old Town, joined by pipe and drum bands, terriers and hounds, and community groups. The parade began more than 50 years ago to highlight the city's Scottish roots and support the Campagna Center, then known as the Community Y. Visit Alexandria took over as lead producer in 2022, and the City of Alexandria now leads the event.

Our take: Stay in Old Town after the clans pass and head to the waterfront that evening for the Holiday Boat Parade of Lights.
