About this event
Buffalo Place's Downtown Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration, presented by Community Bank, marks the official opening of the free ice-skating season at Fountain Plaza in the heart of Downtown Buffalo. Skating gets the evening going, then the crowd counts down to the lighting of the official tree and a fireworks display over the plaza. Visits with Santa, holiday gifts, face-painting and more skating follow. Buffalo Place has managed the outdoor rink in partnership with the City of Buffalo and the Rotary Club of Buffalo for 25 years.
Our take: Bring your own skates to skip the rental line and get some ice time in before the countdown.
Good to know
Ice-skating is free; skate rental is $2 for children and $3 for adults.
