About this event
Grand Illumination is the City of Annapolis and the Downtown Annapolis Partnership's tree lighting at Market Space, near the Market House and City Dock, and it has been lighting up downtown for more than a century. The afternoon brings dancing and carols from local groups, with past lineups featuring youth wind ensembles, ballet and community theater, plus storytime, cookies and hot chocolate for kids inside Zachary's Jewelers. In recent years Santa, Mrs. Claus and Elfie have arrived by fire truck to lead the countdown and light the tree.
Our take: After the lighting, wander up to see the light canopies over West Street and Maryland Avenue and the Menorah on City Dock.
Good to know
Free and open to the public. Fleet Street, Cornhill Street and Market Space close to traffic during the event.
