About this event
The Christmas tree-lighting ceremony at the Emlen Physick Estate opens Christmas in Cape May, with Santa and his elves covering the 1879 house museum in thousands of lights and holiday trimmings. The John Walter Community Band plays holiday classics as the tree is lit on an estate Cape May MAC calls the town's only Victorian house museum. Cape May, described as America's only National Historic Landmark City, is dressed as a Dickens village with garlands and gaslights for a holiday season that began with a Christmas tour in 1974. Santa's trolley rides also begin and end at the Physick Estate at 1048 Washington Street.
Our take: Get to the Physick Estate early enough to hear the John Walter Community Band before Santa lights the tree.
