About this event
The Dominion Energy Christmas Parade draws more than 100,000 spectators from across Virginia with a lineup of colorful floats, giant helium balloons, high school and college marching bands, princesses, superheroes and Legendary Santa himself. Its history runs back to the Thalhimers' Toy Parade of the 1950s; after a 15-year hiatus the Richmond Jaycees revived it, Ukrop's carried the title for 17 years, and Dominion Energy stepped in to save the parade in 2010. Past grand marshals have included Willie Lanier, SpongeBob SquarePants and the Harlem Globetrotters, and in 1991 Paul Simon, Steve Martin and Chevy Chase filmed a music video along the route.
Our take: If the curbside crowds are too much, watch it live on WTVR CBS6 instead.
