About this event

The Mayor's Christmas Parade captivates thousands along a 1.5-mile route through Hampden and Medfield, with colorful floats, local personalities, costumed characters inspired by popular movies, lively marching bands, dance troupes, festive balloons and Santa Claus. It began in 1972, when Mayor William Donald Schaefer asked Tom Kerr of the Hampden Business Association to help launch a new holiday parade after the Hochschild-Kohn Toytown Parade ended. It still carries the Mayor's name and receives City support, but a nonprofit volunteer organization now runs it, relying on the generosity of local businesses and community groups.

Our take: Park on the side streets around Falls Road or 36th Street and walk in rather than circling the route.
