Atlanta Ballet's The Nutcracker

Atlanta Ballet stages a reimagined, larger-than-life Nutcracker by acclaimed choreographer Yuri Possokhov at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. Falling snowflakes, twirling flowers and radiant spinning stars fill a dazzling winter wonderland, set to Tchaikovsky's score played live by the Atlanta Ballet Orchestra. The production blends sweeping choreography, gentle humor and richly detailed theatrical design, so much that ArtsATL noted audiences will likely spot something new each season. The show runs a little over two hours with intermission.

Our take: Sit a little farther back for the full sweep of Possokhov's big ensemble scenes and the detailed sets.
