About this event
The Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade sends decorated yachts, boats, kayaks and canoes around Newport Harbor each night, hosted by the Commodores Club of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce alongside the Ring of Lights waterfront home-decorating contest. Its roots reach back more than a century to early lighted boat parades and the summer Tournament of Lights, revived in 1919 by Balboa Island developer Joseph Beek. In 1946 city employees towed a barge with a lighted Christmas tree around the harbor singing carols, and decorated boats soon followed, creating today's Christmas parade. Holiday drone shows light up both ends of the harbor.
Our take: Bring the family to Marina Park, the largest public viewing area on the route, and arrive early for one of its 177 parking spaces.
Parking
All city parking lots are open during the parade.
