About this event
Ames Main Street's Saturday farmers market fills the 200, 300 and 400 blocks of downtown, drawing more than 8,000 people on a typical market day. Each Saturday brings its own lineup: live music, petting zoos and pony rides, face painting and cooking contests from sourdough bread to chili. Organizers encourage shoppers to drop produce in the car and stay to explore the rest of Downtown Ames.
Our take: The final Saturdays bring a chili cook-off and a pet costume contest with trick-or-treating, plus a community harvest drive.
Parking
Free and metered downtown parking; the 2- and 4-hour limits are waived in free lots X and Y during market hours.

Saturdays, 9 a.m.–12:30 p.m. in October (8 a.m.–12:30 p.m. May–September).
