About this event
The Texas Book Festival fills downtown Austin in and around the Texas State Capitol with author presentations and panels, book signings, cooking demonstrations, programs for kids, food trucks and exhibiting vendors, and it is free and open to all. Founded in 1995 by Laura Bush, then First Lady of Texas, Mary Margaret Farabee and a group of volunteers, it is now one of the nation's premier annual literary events, featuring more than 250 authors and drawing 40,000 book lovers. The festival has donated more than $3.7 million to Texas public libraries, and its Exhibitor Marketplace brings vendors from around the country selling books, services and handcrafted items.
Our take: Grab a bite between author sessions from food trucks like Amy's Ice Creams, Heros Gyros and Wholly Cow Burgers.
