About this event
The Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot is billed as the largest Thanksgiving Day event of its kind in the country, and Dallas' way to start the holiday. It began in 1967 at White Rock Lake and now starts at Dallas City Hall on Marilla Street. Timed and untimed fields cover an 8-mile or a 5K, with a virtual option and a Diaper Dash for crawling babies on a soft mat about 12 feet long, complete with a long-sleeve onesie and a picture bib. The Roost on City Hall Plaza serves breakfast tacos, omelets, mini pancakes, fruit, hot chocolate, coffee, and juice before the trot, plus post-race snacks. Walkers are asked to start at the back of the pack.
Our take: Bring a crawling baby for the Diaper Dash on its soft mat, and start at the back of the pack if you are walking.
Parking
Arrive early to park and walk to the start at Dallas City Hall, 1500 Marilla Street. No dogs or strollers in the timed runner corral.
Good to know
Timed 8-mile and 5K start at 8:30am. Untimed runners may start at 8:30am or 9:00am. Diaper Dash has seven 30-minute slots from 8:30am to 11:00am.
