About this event

The Festival of Lights fills the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden with 5 million LED lights. Visitors hunt for five Fiona fairy statues in Fiona's Fairyland, watch a blacklight Madcap Puppet Show, and take in Wild Lights on Swan Lake, plus 65 larger-than-life animal lanterns and an Under the Sea area. Zoo-ville is a light-filled scene built around a green character and friends. Santa appears in Santa's Village, and the North Polar Express train runs through a light tunnel. Seasonal stops include the Hot Hippo drink, s'mores, and roasted nuts. Animals usually head indoors around 5 p.m.; heated houses such as the Reptile House and Manatee Springs stay open, while gorillas are off habitat on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Our take: Choose a weeknight if you want fewer people, and come early enough to see animals before they head indoors.
