About this event
The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association holds Great Maine Apple Day at the Common Ground Education Center in Unity, mixing indoor and outdoor apple events. A tour of the Maine Heritage Orchard, cider pressing, butter churning, pie baking, and apple printing sit beside workshops on pruning, seed saving, and historic apple preservation with Maine growers. An identification team will name mystery apples if you bring six to eight fruit in a labeled paper bag. Hundreds of heritage varieties are on display for tasting, and vendors include 5 Star Orchard, Balfour Farm, and Radical Roots Nursery.
Our take: Bring six to eight apples in a paper bag with your name and town on it if you want the identification team to name a mystery tree.
Good to know
12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Bring a light-colored T-shirt for screen printing from 1 to 2 p.m., plus layers.
