About this event
The Holy Ghost Creole Festival celebrates Creole culture at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Opelousas. Friday starts with fried catfish dinners and an evening of gospel hymns from the church's choirs. Saturday brings a 5K run and 1-mile fun walk, live music, zydeco bands under the music tent, and Creole dishes including backbone stew and barbecue pork steak. On Sunday, locals celebrate their Creole heritage at the Creole Festival Parade from Landry Street to Union Street.
Our take: Seek out the famous sweet dough pies, which Holy Ghost volunteers spend hours preparing and baking.

Friday: fish dinners from 10 a.m., grounds open 4 p.m., gospel 6 p.m. Saturday: 5K 8 a.m., grounds 10 a.m. Sunday: grounds 10 a.m., parade 11 a.m. Dinner tickets sold at the church parish office or on the grounds.
