About this event

Blackpot Festival & Cookoff celebrates the music, food and culture of Southwest Louisiana and beyond at Vermilionville in Lafayette. The festival is a cooperative of South Louisiana musicians, artists and roots enthusiasts, joined by groups from other parts of the country, and Saturday brings a full day of artists, the cook-off and a costume contest. Overnight camping is encouraged. Vermilionville, which opened in 1990, is a living history museum and folklife park on a 23-acre site on the banks of the Bayou Vermilion, devoted to Acadian, Native American and Creole culture from 1765 to 1890.

Our take: Come hungry for the cook-off, where competitors vie for champion in gumbo, gravy, cracklin', jambalaya and dessert.

Good to know

Music starts 6 p.m. Friday. Weekend pass with camping $70; Friday only $35; Saturday only $45 (no camping), plus tax.
