About this event
Friends of Black Bayou, Inc., known as FoBB, is the nonprofit that has supported Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge in Monroe since August 1997. The group sponsors a Fall Celebration at the refuge with a photo contest, games and activities for kids, food, exhibitors, and wildlife-themed fun. Winning photos go up in the Visitors' Center, the renovated century-old planter's home, before the celebration and stay on display for a full year. The Conservation Learning Center, opened in October 2005, holds live native wildlife exhibits nearby. Feeding or harassing alligators on the refuge is against federal law.
Our take: See the photo contest display in the Visitors' Center, then keep kids and dogs away from the alligators.
Good to know
Fall Celebration 10-1 PM. Refuge open from 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset. Do not feed or harass alligators.
