About this event
Scottsboro's BBQ festival takes over the Downtown Square. More than 150 backyard cook teams compete. Backyard competition turns in chicken and ribs, with awards at Two Sisters Square, and a Kids-Q contest lets ages 5-12 grill a burger. People's Choice sampling covers up to 10 Boston butts and up to 10 desserts, then a vote. The kids zone adds inflatables, pumpkin bowling, face painting, and a fishing pond, plus a cornhole tournament run by Alabama Cornhole and a car show near City Hall. Live music plays at Two Sisters Square through the day, followed by an after party.
Our take: Park at a signed shuttle lot instead of the square, and buy the People's Choice sample ticket if tasting Boston butts is the point of the trip.
Parking
Shuttles 9 am-4 pm recommended. Unclaimed Baggage on Willow Street to Laurel and Market. Akins Furniture or Patches on Broad Street to City Hall. Collins Intermediate off Legion Street for the Green Line, which also stops at Bynum Softball Field. Event parking signed at Huntington Bank, Scottsboro Utilities, PNC Bank, schools administration, Carter Gymnasium, Warehouse 207, and other lots. Handicap lots on Appletree Street behind Two Sisters Square and at Willow and Market across from the Post Office.
