About this event
The Salem Apple Butter Festival, founded in 1984, centers on outdoor demonstrations of old-fashioned apple butter making, with copper kettles hung over a wood fire and the finished product canned on the spot for visitors to buy. Daily entertainment, a grand parade, food, and crafts sit alongside a quilt show, golf scramble, pet show-off, car show, and cornhole tournament. A Quilt of Valor will be presented to a veteran from Salem or the immediate area. A cooking-with-apples contest and children's pageant round out the program.
Our take: Watch the copper-kettle apple butter cook over a wood fire, then buy a jar canned on the spot.

Parking is on-street or in area lots. Handicap accessible.
