About this event
Hobo Day is South Dakota State University's homecoming, a tradition the school says unites Jackrabbits, Brookings, and campus. The parade starts on Medary Avenue and ends in downtown Brookings, with floats from student organizations and local groups plus The Pride of the Dakotas Marching Band and several high school bands. The week around it includes a no-shave One Month Club, Bum-A-Meal suppers in host homes, cardboard shanties at Bum-Over, a talent show, a downtown rally, BumFire, Hobo BINGO, and Dirty Lil's Disco. The Jackrabbits' homecoming football game is at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium, and Weary Wil Chill follows in the evening.
Our take: Stand on Medary Avenue before the 9:30 a.m. step-off if the parade is the piece you do not want to miss, then stay for the 2 p.m. football game.
