About this event
New York's Village Halloween Parade began in 1973 when Greenwich Village mask maker and puppeteer Ralph Lee led a walk from house to house for his children and their friends. Organizers now call it the largest celebration of its kind in the world, drawing more than 80,000 costumed participants and an estimated 2 million spectators, with giant puppets as a signature tradition. The theme is Body & Soul, and a Firehorse puppet commissioned from master puppeteer Basil Twist leads the way. The parade goes on rain or shine.
Our take: Come in costume and you can walk in the parade yourself, since everyone in costume is welcome to join in.
