About this event
For more than twenty years, Mattie Rhodes has been the heart of Dia de los Muertos celebrations in Kansas City, with festivities in the historic Westside neighborhood, home to many of the city's Latinx residents. The tradition began in the classrooms of the Mattie Rhodes Art Center. This First Friday evening closes the center's altar and art exhibit and ends with the Calaca Night Parade through the Westside.
Our take: Walk the exhibit early in the evening before it closes for the season, then head outside to catch the parade.
