About this event
The Louisiana Cotton Festival in Ville Platte is run by the Louisiana Cotton Festival Association, incorporated in 1953 to promote the prosperity of the area and advance agriculture. Its signature event is Le Tournoi, a jousting game brought by the area's French settlers in which riders at full speed try to spear rings set on posts around a circular track; revived in the 1950s, it is now run with the festival, as riders battle the seven evils of cotton. Other traditions include the Cotton Singers, festival royalty and the Contredanse, a French square dance.
