About this event
The German-American Cultural Center turns its parking lot at Sixth Street in Gretna into an Oktoberfest bier garten for a day. Volunteers grill brats, bake pretzels and prepare homemade sauerkraut, and German beer and wine are served chilled. Two German bands play, Ira Milan's Polka Band and Bier Musikanten from Deutsches Haus. The center's free museum traces German immigration to Louisiana and the West Bank of the New Orleans area, honoring the German families who ran businesses, dairy farms and volunteer fire departments in Gretna.
Our take: Polka fans should come in the morning for Ira Milan's Polka Band; Bier Musikanten takes over in the afternoon.
