About this event

Every October since 1948, Barbourville has gathered on the courthouse square for the Daniel Boone Festival, honoring Boone, the Wilderness Road and the mountain families of Knox County. The town sits along the old Wilderness Road corridor, and festival week brings parades, mountain crafts from Appalachian makers, live music, carnival rides, festival food and a pioneer village with long-rifle demonstrations and costumed interpreters. Organizers call it the oldest continuous celebration of its kind in Kentucky.

Our take: Saturday's Grand Parade, with floats, marching bands, horses and antique tractors, is the centerpiece of the week; arrive early and bring a chair.

Parking

Parking signs are posted at most locations, and a festival shuttle bus serves stops around town in the evenings and on Saturday.

Good to know

$1 advance carnival tickets sold at Barbourville High School on weekdays until sold out.
