About this event
Neewollah takes over Independence, Kansas, with a bandstand, a carnival, a chili cook-off and dessert contest, an arts and crafts show, a marching band festival, a medallion hunt, and a 5K and 10K with a fun run. Three parades, the Doo Dah, the Kiddie, and the Grand, move through town, and a queen pageant crowns Queen Neelah. A musical and dueling pianos round out the stages. Flags go up, carnival lights come on, and the bandstand carries the sound.
Our take: The medallion hunt and the chili cook-off are easy anchors between the three parades.
