About this event

The Chicago Thanksgiving Parade traces its roots to a State Street Christmas parade first held in 1934, proposed by State Street Council president Walter Gregory during the Great Depression to lift spirits and the economy. It steps off at Ida B. Wells and State and heads north on State Street in the Loop to Randolph, with performances, colorful balloons, musicians and bands, and viewing is free from Ida B. Wells to Washington. More than 500 volunteers make it happen, and it leads right into Bears pre-game coverage on CBS Chicago.

Our take: Step-off is an hour earlier than in recent years, so be on State Street before 7:40.
