About this event

Christmas in the Park has been San Jose's downtown holiday display since 1980, grown from the holiday display Don Lima built in the 1950s. Plaza de Cesar Chavez, a two-acre park on Market Street between San Fernando and San Carlos, holds an enchanted forest of trees, more than 40 animated exhibits, and the Lima Train, home to older pieces such as a melting snowman, caroling mice, and elf woodcrafters. Guests can step inside a 50-foot Christmas tree, see the 60-foot Community Giving Tree, and take photos with Santa. The food court sits at the south end near San Carlos Street, and Santa's Snack Shack is at the north end.

Our take: Start at the Lima Train, then use Santa's Snack Shack or the food court near San Carlos Street if you want something to eat in the plaza.

Parking

Dogs are allowed on a leash and well tended; weekend nights are very busy.

Good to know

Daily noon-10 pm, including Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Opening night includes the Community Tree Lighting Ceremony.
