Gilfeather Turnip Festival

Wardsboro, on Route 100 about 10 miles from Mount Snow, calls itself home of the Gilfeather turnip, Vermont's state vegetable, and the town has celebrated that tuber since 2001. Main Street, Town Hall, and the library fill with a turnip contest, tastings, a turnip cart, a soup kiosk, a patch boutique, and seed sales, plus a marketplace of foods and wares. A turnip movie runs through the day, with talks, kids' games, and live music around it, and the library holds an open house and book sale. The party goes on in rain, snow, or shine.
