About this event
Island Oktoberfest is hosted by First Lutheran Church, the oldest continually worshiping German church in Texas, on its grounds and the surrounding streets in historic downtown Galveston. Admission is free, and the festival offers continuous live music on two stages, German dancing, beer gardens with German and domestic brews and German-style wines, beer and wine tastings, a cake wheel, children's rides and games. Arts, crafts and gifts fill the 1860 Lyceum, and the menu runs from smoked sausage and bratwurst to a traditional Wurstabendessen sausage dinner. German costumes are encouraged.
Our take: Save room for Helmut's strudel, baked fresh on site, and the homemade desserts from congregation members.

Friday 5–10 p.m., opening with the keg tapping; Saturday 11 a.m.–10 p.m. Arts & crafts in the Lyceum Fri 5–9 p.m., Sat 11 a.m.–7 p.m. Free admission.
