About this event

The Louisiana Book Festival is billed as the state's premier celebration of readers, writers, and literary heritage, launched in 2002 to promote literacy and Louisiana's literary culture. It is held in downtown Baton Rouge at the State Library of Louisiana, the Capitol Park Museum, and the surrounding area, drawing about 20,000 people from Louisiana and beyond. Highlights include more than 200 authors and poets, book talks and signings, panel discussions, and activities for children and teens. It is billed as a flagship literary event with a nationwide reputation. The Center, a Library of Congress affiliate established in the State Library in 1994, produces the festival.

Our take: Treat it as a full downtown day between the State Library and Capitol Park Museum, since author talks and the kids' activities are spread across both.
