About this event
The Red Gold Chili Cook-Off sets up in historic downtown Elwood, across from the Elwood Municipal Building and around the fountain at South B and Anderson Streets. More than 20 teams compete with recipes from sweet-and-mild to hot-and-spicy. Any individual, business, or organization can sign up to cook. Booths at the Elwood City Building sell fall crafts, baked goods, and handmade specialty items, with live music. Stewie the Red Gold mascot appears. Face painting, balloon twisters, and caricatures keep kids busy. An Indiana beer and wine garden serves guests 21 and older.
Our take: Time the visit for the 10:30 tasting rather than the 8:30 booth opening if chili, not crafts, is the reason for the trip.
