About this event
Run to Feed the Hungry began on Thanksgiving morning in 1994 with 796 participants, and it drew more than 34,000 runners and walkers in 2025, which organizers say makes it the largest Thanksgiving Day fun run in the country. It is the biggest fundraiser for Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services. The 5K and 10K share a loop that starts on J Street just west of the Sacramento State entrance and winds through East Sacramento's tree-lined streets, and you choose your distance on race day by when you start.
Our take: Ride a bike and use the bike valet on the Sac State esplanade, since the J Street campus entrance stays closed to cars until the race ends.
Parking
Free parking in and around Sac State; the J Street entrance is closed until after the race. More parking on residential streets between 56th and 58th Streets, M to H Streets.
