About this event

The Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival takes over historic Main Street in the town that calls itself the World Pumpkin Capital. The Saturday Great Pumpkin Parade puts the winner of the World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off on display, next to Volkswagen-sized champion pumpkins. The festival's official carving expert sculpts Atlantic Giant pumpkins from 300 pounds to more than 1,500. About 250 artists fill several blocks, four stages book live entertainment, and the food court leans on pumpkin pie, pancakes, cheesecake, and churros, plus clam chowder in sourdough bowls. Pumpkin patches around town hold a crop of 3,000-plus tons, and the mascot is Gourdy.

Our take: Make the Saturday parade your anchor, then go for the pumpkin pie and a stop at the giant-pumpkin carving.
