About this event

Behind Christ Lutheran Church at 299 Haywood Lane in Antioch, the Growing Together Community Market is where immigrant and refugee farmers from South Nashville sell produce they grew. Beside familiar Tennessee crops such as tomatoes, potatoes, onions, and lettuces, the tables carry vegetables and herbs popular in Burma and Bhutan, including water spinach, bitter gourd, daikon radishes, and mustard greens. Through the months that can mean arugula, mizuna, bok choy, kohlrabi, long beans, roselle greens, and pumpkin shoots, changing as the season turns. A related farm share adds a culinary toolkit with cooking tips and recipes from the farmers themselves.

Our take: Ask the farmers how they cook bitter gourd or water spinach, and use the culinary toolkit recipes if a share introduced you to those greens.
