About this event

The Giant Omelette Celebration is Abbeville's family festival built around a 5,000-egg omelette cooked in a 12-foot skillet, hosted by the Confrerie d'Abbeville. Saturday opens in historic downtown with a kids world, an arts and crafts show under the oaks at Magdaline Square, Louisiana music, and an egg-cracking contest that uses antique farm implements. Sunday adds antique cars and the procession of chefs, eggs, and bread to the giant skillet. Junior members cook a 600-egg omelette in a 4-foot skillet beside the main one. The giant omelette itself is cooked on Sunday afternoon only.

Our take: Go Sunday if the giant skillet is the reason you came, and claim a seat early for the chefs' procession.
