Oakhurst Porchfest

Oakhurst Porchfest is a commercial-free, grassroots music day in Decatur, Georgia, where front porches become stages and yards become venues. It began in 2015, when Harmony Park construction kept the Oakhurst Arts and Music Festival from happening; the two events are otherwise unrelated. The Decatur Arts Alliance, musicians, and hundreds of Oakhurst neighbors put it on, with help from city sanitation and Decatur Police. The day features roughly 200 acts on about as many porches across roughly one square mile in southwest Decatur, between Agnes Scott College, College Heights, East Lake, and Kirkwood. Nobody is paid. Musicians may set out a tip jar or sell merch, and neighbors may sell refreshments. A day's-end throwdown sits at the center of the neighborhood.

Our take: Treat it as a roam, not a camp-out: performances run in staggered time slots, so keep moving if you want more than a single yard.
