About this event
LumaFest is Santa Rosa Junior College Petaluma's educational open house and Dia de los Muertos celebration on the campus at 680 Sonoma Mountain Parkway. Danza Azteca, Petaluma's Ballet Folklorico, and mariachi share the day with hands-on art, live music, local artisans, food trucks, club booths, and altars. The face of the festival is Fresno, an articulated giraffe skeleton in the Mahoney Library, once at the Fresno Chaffee Zoo and later at Safari West, reassembled by an instructor and students. The college ties that display to the Dia de los Muertos idea that the dead live on in memory. Guests can also explore college and career pathways.
Our take: Make the Mahoney Library a first stop to see Fresno, then catch Danza Azteca or mariachi before the food trucks.
