About this event

The Boucherie and Balloon Festival on Airline Highway in Sorrento is the Sorrento Lions Club's primary fundraiser, supporting the Louisiana Lions Eye Foundation and the Louisiana Lions Camp. A boucherie is a gathering where all things pig are cooked, and the festival hosts cracklin and jambalaya cooking competitions all weekend, plus a cochon de lait cooked over an open fire each day. The Boucherie Festival Association food tent sells the competition food along with hog head cheese, pulled pork sandwiches and boudin links. A carnival, a vendor market and local musicians playing swamp pop to country round out the grounds.

Our take: Stay into the evening for the hot air balloon glows, and look into a tethered balloon ride while you're there.

Good to know

Hours are Friday 4:30–11 p.m., Saturday noon–11 p.m. and Sunday noon–6 p.m. Admission is free; donations are accepted at the entry and the BFA tent.
