About this event
SIU Carbondale's Homecoming, organized by the Student Programming Council, marks 75 years of the Saluki with a week of decade-themed events. The week includes a King Tut-themed pep rally on Faner Plaza, a retro roller rink and silent disco, a Ferris Bueller's Day Off movie night, and a '90s-style Saluki Carnival Block Party with rides and live performers on Lincoln Drive. The SIU Homecoming Street Music Festival takes over the Strip, and Saturday brings the parade, a Saluki tailgate and football against Illinois State at Saluki Stadium.
Our take: Non-students should aim for the community-welcome events, like Thursday's Carnival Block Party and Saturday's 10 a.m. parade on South Illinois Avenue; several weeknight events are for SIU students only.
Good to know
Parade 10 a.m. Saturday on the Strip (South Illinois Avenue); football vs. Illinois State 3 p.m. at Saluki Stadium. Several weeknight events are for SIU students only.
