Fur Rendezvous (Fur Rondy)

Fur Rendezvous, called Rondy, is billed as North America's largest winter festival and has marked Anchorage for over 90 years. It began in 1935 as a gathering for trappers and miners and now spreads citywide with more than 50 events, among them world-class sled dog races, massive snow sculptures, fireworks, the Running of the Reindeer, and the Official Fur Auction. Collector pins started in 1939, with artists competing for the official design and students entering a booster button contest. A Royal Court is crowned at the Royal Tea and Coronation and leads the Grand Parade down 5th Avenue. The snow sculpture championships are at Ship Creek.
